This year's ride will finish at Karumba Point. Be sure to book accommodation at the point or in town depending on whether you prefer party noise or quiet peaceful rest. Camping is available for us at the Recreation Centre in Karumba town.
Organisation for the 2009 Coast to Coast Bike Ride is well underway and what a year it is shaping up to be. Recently a major sponsorship from Bendigo Bank has been announced which opens up some very exciting opportunities for the event and a very happy partnership with Bendigo and our continuing major partner 4CAFM. Bendigo Bank’s key message is “At Bendigo it starts with U” and the bike ride is very much in tune with this – we maintain a high focus on team building and empowerment for our many volunteers as well as the riders and support crews taking part in the event each year. This results in a very happy, supportive and well organised event where you can achieve and experience things you never dreamt of and make new life-long friends at the same time. So how about starting with ‘U’ and get your registrations in as soon as possible! Our other key sponsors to date include Telstra Country Wide (great to have Wally and the Telstra crew on board again this year), Pump n Pedals (Brad and his very helpful team are always ready to help with advice and support), Ash’s Holiday Units & Cafe at Karumba (that’s my crew!!), Australian Chemicals (Graeme has been helping the ride out for several years now) and welcome to Savannah Way Ltd which is on board to help everyone get the most out of travelling the Savannah Way. Key dates to keep in mind: REGISTRATIONS: For catering and organisational purposes we need registrations with minimum $50 deposit to be lodged as soon as possible – and no later than 1st June, 2009 RIDE SHIRTS: To be GUARANTEED an official ride shirt (cycling shirt for riders and polo for support crew/volunteers) – we need your REGISTRATION no later than 1st May, 2009 – any registrations received after this date cannot be guaranteed shirts due to time required for ordering/printing of shirts etc. PRE-RIDE MEETING: Saturday 27th JUNE at Cairns School of Distance Education – this is a compulsory meeting to go over information and answer questions prior to the start of the ride. More updates and information will be posted as organisation progresses – and you will see the changes and improvements to the website over coming weeks (many thanks to Alison) – in the mean time – best wishes to all for 2009 – and it is great to be back fully involved with this wonderful event again. Bendigo Bank 12th Annual Coast to Coast Bike Ride BE THERE FOR THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!
MOUNTAIN BIKE OPTIONS FOR 2009 In recent years the Coast to Coast Bike Ride introduced an optional route for anyone keen to do the ride by Mountain Bike via ‘off road’ conditions – a keen band of mountain bike enthusiasts are taking this challenge on again in 2009 and we have a dedicated team putting together a great alternate route ride. This is being enthusiastically supported by Bendigo Bank through their local branch staff – particularly the Community Bank at Dimbulah who are keen to help the mountain bike riders in any way possible. So there will be more details and we will post contact details for the organising group for this option once the actual route is finalised in the near future – and if you are keen and interested in the mountain bike option out we would love to hear from you as an expression of interest – just email myself on tunneys.ath@bigpond.com or milboe@austarnet.com.au
